South West residents heard how their country was linked to the United States and China when US Consul General Dr Kenneth Chern spoke at a Critical Horizons seminar in July 2009.
During the lecture at Edith Cowan University, Dr Chern said Western Australia was “tied at the hip” with Asia.
He spoke of China’s rapid expansion and its changing legal and business framework.
Dr Chern, who has focused on East Asian and Pacific affairs during his notable diplomatic career, also took the time to answer questions from a near-capacity audience.
He said the South West region of Australia had a lot to offer his home country, including potential exports of wine, olive oil and agricultural items. The South West also had great potential as a tourist and education destination, Dr Chern said.
The event was hosted by the South West Development Commission, City of Bunbury and Edith Cowan University. A wine tasting and networking session after the seminar was sponsored by Thompson Estate, Fermoy Estate and Edwards.
