Conference details
15 May 2014
Bunbury, Western Australia
The forces shaping our future communities are visible over the horizon. But what are they? And how might they influence our way of living in 10, 20 or 30 years time? Find out at the next event in the Critical Horizons series that’s perfect for leaders, planners, decision-makers and anyone interested in what the future could hold.
Join us at the new Cube Theatre at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Thursday May 15 for a fascinating examination of living in the South West region of Western Australia in 2050. With the theme "Communities of the 21st Century" and featuring high-profile guest speakers, the seminar promises to be Critical Horizons at its thought-provoking best.
Numerous networking opportunities have been included in the conference program to accommodate the discussion the event will no doubt stimulate.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Australia has shifted emphasis since the global financial crisis. Gone is our singular obsession with seachange. What seems to have emerged are muscular regions that engage globally and that offer lifestyle. And nowhere is this ‘new Australian regionalism’ better evidenced than in the West’s South West: global linkages through the port of Bunbury; improved motorway and air connections with Perth and beyond; and a lifestyle fusion of Tuscanesque vineyards and Californian beaches. But this is not to say that this golden region isn’t without its challenges such as retaining youth. Perhaps the way forward in the South West lies in a cultural shift that embraces the principles of localism and have-a-go-ism. The South West has all the attributes to be regional Australia’s “can-do” centre of excellence."
-Bernard Salt
